Stefan is a kickass photographer from Barbados, currently living and shooting in NYC. He recently ducked over to the UK to catch the first ever London AFROPUNK FEST. The festival is all about “a safe place, a blank space to freak out in, to construct a new reality, to live your life as you see fit, while making sense of the world around you.”
He chats to us about how to stay curious.
People too often let the temporality of life drive them into adopting this careless and uninvolved approach towards life and relationships.
Knowing that you’re likely working on borrowed time should make you want to see, do, experience, and feel more than you can comprehend.
I know not everyone can just up and go after everything they want, but you have to remain hopeful.
Allowing yourself to slip into the whole “eh, that didn’t work out so fuck it,” mentality is a slippery slope, cause while some degree of detachment is healthy, you shouldn’t completely disregard anything that’s happened.
Every experience you go through offers you knowledge, and thus, growth.
Actually, I lied.
Knowledge itself doesn’t translate to growth.
You have to want to grow.
You have to want to use that knowledge to change in some way that improves on the person you already are.
Every bit counts, so don’t beat yourself up if you’re trying and aren’t where you want to be just yet.
Growth looks different on each and every one of us.
There’s no deadline, so just keep doing your best.
